I am a Researcher, and i know the deadly causes of human trafficking in India. Speaking about the ‘Adivasi’, I can only say that lets give up our old custom and traditions which are proving us to be jangly. When i say this I mean the desi mahua wine, which is the main cause among the tribes, and it is a big block on their way to development. Secondly, lets give importance to the education. what we have to do is to realize the potentialities we have, which is very little in others. We may have developments individually but practically speaking it needs a mass effort to give better life to Adivasis. No one can fill your shoe, so be united and start to be innovative rather than becoming revolutionary. we can win the world with mere intelligence. I am there to support by my thoughts.

Harijan is the new name given to the untouchable indians by Mahatma Gandhi. Harijan means the parijans (the nearer and dearer) of Hari,the Almighty Hindu God. For the official use it is SC (Scheduled Castes). The Scheduled Castes suffer from the stigma of untouchability. Age-old caste prejudices and practice of untouchability against them lead to commission of atrocities. So anybody calling a harijan by his caste harijan is atrocity. If you call a ganda by is caste ganda is atrocity. Because it is a caste prejudice already registered in the brain of the offender that he is dealing with an untouchable. Would you please call Mahatma Gandhi as a Harijan?Would you like to prefix Harijan before your name? Similar are the cases with Tribal people. Who is the dog here? Why the satirical language ? The SC/ST boys are defamed in the classes in a very similar manner.

I am really astonished to read the article. I had the chance to work among them staying in their village for about two months at a stretch during mid 80′s. Though my nature of work related to anthropology in general, both Physical and Cultural. So far I remember the Toto are having 13/14 exogamous clans, and they do not marry within their own clan. When I see in this report that there is high percentage of beta-thalassemia trait, the next obvious question will be how many deaths have been recorded due to thalassemia? Nearby Madarihat hospital could have been approached. What I found about a matter of concern, is too much dependency on the “Jhankri’, the Nepali ethno medicineman. I personally experienced the death of an young lady with perhaps pneumonia, when she was denied to consult the doctors, though we( myself and local school head master) suggested at least hot garlic-mustard oil may be massaged at the extremities. They did. but Jhankri appeared, and black hen was sacrificed. when she was taken to hospital, it was too late. I had long discussions with young Bhakta, Ramesh, Dhaniram, Maniram, Sugrib and others who became befriended with us and spent much time with the members of late Dinesh Toto, the ex leader of the Toto community. A peculiar skin disease called “Yaws”, was found but literally adult beta thalassemia homo zygote, I could not come across. I may be totally wrong, and should update my knowledge.
If we consider the demographic profile since the study of C C Sanyal, BK RoyBurman, ISI, CRI studies we will see the total number Toto is always increasing, except in one decennial census, which may be due to some error or temporary migration to some place. Even in our study we found close to 1000 souls of Toto.Therefore extinction in near future may not be a wise comment about the Toto.

Santhals are never hindu. Hindus were trying bring Santhals into the umbrella of Caste system. Researchers and people interested must go deep into the root of origin of Santhal. By giving loose statement will not prove anything.

The problem of evicted Adivasi of Kokhrajhar district is still not resolved. It is a political and constitutional issue and should be dealt with accordingly in the Indian Parliament with the pressure from the people on the ground and the rest of India.
